Birds and the Sun have been a repetitive motif in my work because of the way they embody aspects of joyfulness such as spirituality, freedom, warmth, togetherness, and loving. My idea was to have these made into objects of comfort---pillows in this case. The sun pillow was made from vintage lace fabric and repurposed, naturally dyed using turmeric. I used a tambour technique and embroidery to create the designs of the eyes, nose, and mouth. The bird was created using the same two fabrics as the sun pillow, silk paint, and embroidered beads.
